Κύρτου Πλέγματα-Κρηπίς

Anavathmis is complementary to the Action “Krepis” and its Project “Kyrtou Plegmata”, particularly since a number of repositories are extended and completed within the Anavathmis framework.

Kyrtou Plegma (Convex Grids) is how Plato described the circulatory system that diffused life and heat throughout the entire living body (Timaeus 79d). The then newly-formed Institute of Historical Research had engaged in the study of the formation and function of various networks that developed in the wider Greek space from the Prehistorical Age to the contemporary era, and to examine their contribution in its making.

The Project’s working hypothesis is that the spatiality of the Greek world does not form a static entity, nor is it a simple result of historical expansions, dominations, or Greek diaspora, but that it should be examined in relation to the function of more synthetic mechanisms that define particular activity and practices of historical societies within their wider horizon. Greek space is formed and subject to change in relation to the development of particular local or supra-local correlations, interconnections and exchanges, and is thus connected with various economic, political and cultural systems that co-exist or alternate within the wider geographical area from prehistorical times until today.
