CONFERENCES

Conferences

Moving away from the traditional trend, the conference aimed at proposing a comparative examination of Eastern Mediterranean monasticism during the period following the Fourth Crusade to the consolidation of Ottoman power, by bringing together scholars specializing in establishments of both the Orthodox and Latin traditions. The online discussion focused on important aspects of the two types of monasticism to showcase points of convergence and difference between them, and how they were affected by their co-existence in both the Byzantine territories and the region generally.

The conference was held virtually on 1-2 October 2020. The conference proceedings are expected to be published by the Institute of Historical Research.

The theme of the conference was the presentation of novel digital research tools and their orientation towards broader research fields, which include primary sources, historical actors, space and time, and networks. The digital conference successfully brought together researchers from around the world who actively participated in a very interesting debate regarding the realisation and use of digital systems in the promotion and diffusion of the historical research.

The ConferenceCultural transfers. Mediations and Mediators in Modern Greece (1830-1940) is the continuation of the research program “Cultural Mediators between Greece, France and other European countries (1830-1974)”, carried by the Institute of Historical Research of the National Hellenic Research Foundation and by the French School of Athens. The purpose of the Conference is to synthesize the data gathered during the program in order to study them from a cultural, methodological and historiographical point of view. Our objective will be to point out the ways individuals interfere with institutions, the micro-histories with History, within the broad field of cultural transfers. The meeting will end with a Round Table entitled: “From Small Stories to History: Biography and Prosopography”.
