Description: The project “Greek-speaking” Merchants of Constantinople, the southern Balkans, Asia Minor and the islands (9th-15th centuries) aims at collecting and using the information available concerning the activity of “Greek-speaking” merchants in this area. The term is used in a conventional manner, in order to describe those persons living within the borders of the Empire, who mainly used Greek, but not necessarily only Greek, as language of communication. The application is a convenient tool that allows for the simple and composite search of data for the study of trade in Byzantium during the middle and late Byzantine period.
