Western Religious Orders in the Aegean Sea, the Ionian Sea and Cyprus (11th-19th c.)

Description: The database for “Western religious orders in the Aegean, the Ionian and Cyprus (11th – 19th centuries)” aims at:

  1. I) canvassing for the first time on a map the extent, density and diversity of the installations of Western religious orders in the specific geographical areas from the 11th century to 1830, year of Greek Independence.
  2. II) collecting and presenting the basic bibliographical documentation for these installations.

The data were extracted primarily from the secondary works and published sources but also from unpublished archival material. The database is an ongoing project, which will be systematically enriched with new data, reviewed and updated.
