Description: The database includes terms relating to bookbinding and to the description of the codex as a material object; it is structured in sections that correspond to the constitutive parts of the book. The terms are accompanied by brief explanations in Greek. An English translation of each term is also provided. Moreover, the database supplies synonyms, thus creating links between the scholarly and artisanal linguistic idioms. In this way, it reflects the changes that occur in the terminology of the Byzantine and Post-Byzantine book in the course of centuries and follows the technical developments that take place in the geographical space of the Eastern Mediterranean and of Europe.
